As a Peatland Hydrology Technical Director, you’ll provide strategic and technical leadership within the Water Environment team, specialising in peatland hydrology, restoration, and management. You’ll mentor junior consultants, develop team capabilities, and contribute to the wider growth of the business through client engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is an ideal opportunity for a senior-level consultant with deep sector expertise and a passion for building high-performing teams and delivering technical excellence.
Provide technical leadership in peatland hydrology, restoration, and management.
Oversee projects including peatland surveys, feasibility studies, restoration design, and hydrology-based EIAR chapters (Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Soils).
Ensure robust quality assurance and best practice by staying at the forefront of industry developments.
Generate business through proposals, tenders, bids, and client development.
Attend client/project meetings and deliver expert-level consultancy advice.
Mentor staff and support CPD, identifying and addressing technical skills gaps.
Collaborate with senior management to implement improvement initiatives and cultivate a positive health & safety culture across the organisation.
10–15+ years' experience in peatland hydrology.
Relevant degree (Master’s or PhD preferred).
Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
Proven track record of business development and sales generation in consultancy.
Expertise delivering compliant Peat Management Plans and hydrology EIAR chapters.
In-depth understanding of peatland policy and legislation in England, Scotland, and Wales.
Strong knowledge of the Peatland Code and Peatland ACTION framework.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with stakeholder negotiation experience (e.g., SEPA, EA).
