Our client is a leading Ecology, Arboriculture, and Landscape Planning & Design consultancy, delivering expert solutions across infrastructure, development, and conservation projects. The Role

We are looking for an Assistant or Consultant Ecologist with a keen interest in botany to join our expanding Midlands team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career ecologist looking to build expertise in botanical surveys, ecological appraisals, and project management.

What You’ll Do

• Field Surveys: Conduct a range of botanical and ecological surveys, ensuring efficient scheduling and data collection.
• Preliminary Ecological Appraisals: Carry out habitat assessments following best practice guidelines.
• Project Coordination: Manage survey timetables and ensure smooth project delivery.
• Protected Species Surveys: Assist with protected species surveys and mitigation strategies.
• Reporting & Analysis: Produce technical reports, including habitat assessments and biodiversity impact statements.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with clients, planning authorities, and colleagues across multidisciplinary teams.

What We’re Looking For

✔ Degree in Ecology, Botany, or a related field, or equivalent experience
✔ Strong botanical identification skills and an interest in further developing expertise
✔ Understanding of UK planning policy (NPPF, Local Plans) in relation to ecology
✔ Survey experience in protected species, habitat assessments, or biodiversity net gain (BNG)
✔ Excellent communication & report-writing skills
✔ Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site visits
