About Us

Our client is a leading Ecology, Arboriculture, and Landscape Planning & Design consultancy, known for delivering sustainable, pragmatic solutions to clients across infrastructure, conservation, and development sectors. As part of a growing multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a key role in advancing botanical expertise within the business.

The Role

We are seeking a Principal Botanist to lead botanical projects, mentor junior ecologists, and contribute to high-profile environmental initiatives. You’ll have the opportunity to shape ecological strategies, drive innovation, and work on a diverse range of projects.

What You’ll Do

• Botanical Leadership: Lead field surveys, habitat assessments, and vegetation mapping with expert precision.
• Project Management: Oversee complex ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring high standards and efficiency.
• Mentorship & Team Growth: Inspire and develop junior ecologists, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Client Engagement: Build strong client relationships, delivering expert advice and strategic botanical solutions.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects align with environmental legislation and planning policies.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with arboricultural, landscape, and ecological teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Extensive experience in botanical surveys, habitat assessments, and vegetation ecology.
• A degree in botany, ecology, or a related field (postgraduate qualification desirable).
• In-depth understanding of UK plant ecology, invasive species, and habitat restoration.
• Proven leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and manage teams.
• Strong commercial acumen, with experience in client management and business development.
• Knowledge of protected species licensing, mitigation strategies, and planning policies.
