Join a leading environmental consultancy and advance your career in flood risk and hydraulic modelling

About Us

We are a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy, delivering expert solutions in flood risk, hydrology, and environmental management. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced consultant to support our projects and help expand our hydrology team across multiple offices.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior to Principal Consultant with 5-7 years’ experience to support and manage a variety of flood risk assessment and hydraulic modelling projects. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role, working closely with clients and regulatory authorities while developing your expertise in a supportive, growing team.

This role is office-based in Manchester or Cambridge, with occasional travel to our Sheffield office where the hydrology team is based. Hybrid/remote options may be available for more experienced candidates.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare Flood Risk Assessments (FRA), Environmental Statement (ES) chapters, and modelling reports.
  • Conduct hydrological assessments using FEH Statistical Analysis, ReFH2, and WINFAP.
  • Build and run hydraulic models using HECRAS, TUFLOW, ESTRY, and Flood Modeller (training available for unfamiliar software).
  • Undertake site walkovers and surveys, contributing to risk assessments.
  • Consult with water regulators, statutory authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets under the guidance of senior management.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff members.

What We’re Looking For

  • A relevant degree in Geography, Earth/Environmental Sciences, or Engineering.
  • Membership or working towards Chartership (CIWEM).
  • Strong understanding of flood risk and drainage policy in England, Wales, and Scotland.
  • Experience preparing flood risk assessments, modelling reports, and water environment ES chapters.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and liaise with clients and regulators.

We encourage applications from candidates who meet at least 80% of the criteria, as we provide both in-house and external training for software and technical development.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: £37,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience).
  • Annual Leave: 24 days + bank holidays, plus an option to buy 5 additional days.
  • Career Development: Paid professional subscriptions (up to £750 per year).
  • Healthcare & Well-being: Private healthcare scheme and life insurance (3x annual salary).
  • Sustainable Travel: Drive Electric car scheme, pool cars, and car hire options.
  • Flexible Benefits: Access to the Wider Wallet Benefits scheme.
  • Long Service Rewards: Recognising dedication with additional perks.
  • Additional Support: Free eye tests and winter flu jabs.
