Electrical Engineer – Contract
(Westport, Ireland)

About the Role
Client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead and implement a world-class electrical maintenance programme at their manufacturing site in Westport. This pivotal role will focus on the development and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies aligned with European Electrical Standards and ETCI regulations, ensuring continuous improvement, reliability, and safety across the site’s electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical systems across the Westport site.

• Identify and document all HV, MV, and LV electrical infrastructure.

• Develop site-wide electrical and life safety system architectural drawings using AutoCAD.

• Create and implement preventive maintenance schedules and asset job plans in Maximo CMMS.

• Maintain and enhance electrical SOPs aligned with AbbVie's European Electrical Standards.

• Coordinate and lead electrical power down/up activities, ensuring compliance with GMP and safety standards.

• Own change control processes and stakeholder communications related to electrical projects.

• Maintain and update site electrical drawings and ARC flash studies.

• Establish and manage ATEX and IP rating registers and associated PM programmes.

• Represent electrical systems during FM Global inspections and compliance audits.

• Oversee the condition reporting and upkeep of key electrical assets including:

  • Circuit breakers, transformers, UPS systems, fire alarms, lighting, CCTV, and more.

• Drive innovation and infrastructure improvements across the site.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering
  OR

• National Craft Certificate in Electrical Engineering with a Degree in Management

Experience:

• 10+ years as a qualified electrician or electrical engineer.

• Proven expertise in CMMS (Maximo preferred) and electrical maintenance programmes.

Technical Skills:

• Comprehensive knowledge of European electrical standards and compliance procedures.

• Strong CAD skills for electrical system mapping.

• Ability to lead audits, inspections, and stakeholder presentations with confidence.

• Skilled in thermographic surveys, PAT testing, and electrical risk assessment.

Leadership and Decision-Making:

• Trusted as the site’s go-to expert for electrical systems and maintenance compliance.

• Ability to manage cross-functional projects and ensure regulatory, quality, cost, and safety standards are met.
