Job Title: Mechanical Estimator

Location: Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo
Reports to: Director of Operations


Overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a growing Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contracting team. The successful candidate will support cost estimation processes for projects across multiple sectors, including pharmaceuticals, data centres, commercial, and industrial developments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely mechanical service estimates, including process, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing systems.

  • Review project plans, specifications, and scope documents to identify effective and cost-efficient solutions.

  • Support the preparation of subcontractor and materials inquiries and analyse returned quotations.

  • Contribute to the development of preliminary resource cost estimates aligned with project timelines and engineering standards.

  • Collaborate in the preparation and presentation of commercial elements of tenders to senior management.

  • Support the submission process of commercial tenders to clients.

  • Verify alignment between accepted tenders and the proposed contract terms.

  • Prepare commercial handover documents for transition to project delivery teams.

  • Attend site visits and client meetings as required.

  • Work with internal teams and clients to review tender documents and project handovers.

  • Participate in the ongoing improvement of estimating tools, reports, and procedures.


Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an Estimator or Mechanical Engineer with estimating responsibilities; qualified tradespersons in a related field will also be considered.

  • Solid understanding of the tendering process within the construction industry.

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontractor management.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Exceptional organisational and time management capabilities.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work within deadlines.

  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
