Job title: Teaching Assistant - Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Location: Merton, London
Do you have the skills and dedication to support students with challenging behaviours in their educational journey? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant at a Pupil Referral Unit in Merton.
This Pupil Referral Unit caters to students with SEMH and challenging behaviours. You will be working 1:1 and in small groups with KS3/KS4 students. The hours will be from 8.30am-3.45pm. This is a full-time, long term role and will be with a view to going permanent. The daily rate of pay will be £90-£100 a day depending on skills and experience.
You will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic and personal development. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Assisting classroom teachers in delivering tailored lessons that meet individual learning goals.
- Building positive relationships with students and helping them develop essential social and emotional skills.
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
- Collaborating with the teaching team to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Monitoring and recording student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to the teaching staff.
- Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students with SEMH and challenging behaviours is highly desirable.
- A passion for education and a strong commitment to supporting the needs of every student.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively within a diverse and dynamic educational setting.
- A relevant teaching assistant qualification would be advantageous.
