SEN Teaching Assistant - Hearing Impaired Support

Location: Wandsworth, London

We are currently recruiting for a reputable SEN (Special Educational Needs) School located in the vibrant area of Wandsworth, London.  The School have dedicated staff who provide exceptional educational opportunities for students with a range of learning needs. They are currently seeking a passionate and skilled SEN Teaching Assistant with British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 or 2 training to support students who are hearing impaired.

This is a full-time, long term role with a view to going permanent and will be to start as soon as possible.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant specialising in hearing impaired support, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the educational development and well-being of students. Your primary responsibility will be to provide assistance and guidance to students who are hearing impaired, enabling them to access the curriculum effectively and participate fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to create and implement tailored strategies to support the learning and communication needs of students who are hearing impaired.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support during classroom activities, ensuring students have access to information and can actively engage in lessons.
  • Utilise your BSL training to facilitate effective communication between students, staff, and peers.
  • Support students in developing independent living skills, promoting their overall personal growth and development.
  • Collaborate with the SEN team and other professionals to provide a holistic approach to support, contributing to multidisciplinary meetings and reviews.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students who are hearing impaired or have sensory needs in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 or 2 certification is essential for this role.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to supporting their educational and emotional development.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to adapt communication methods to meet the needs of individual students.
