A long‑standing and highly respected calibration and engineering services provider in Derby is seeking a motivated Calibration Technician to transition into a Head of Laboratories role to oversee its UKAS‑accredited laboratory operations.

This role is perfect for an experienced Electrical Calibration Technician who wants to transition into a team leader–level position, guiding a skilled team and shaping the future of a growing laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day‑to‑day activities of the UKAS‑accredited laboratory, ensuring smooth workflow and consistently high service standards.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership across Electrical Calibration, testing, and inspection functions.
• Support, mentor, and develop laboratory technicians, promoting best practice, skills development, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure full compliance with ISO 9001, UKAS standards, and internal quality procedures.
• Oversee both onsite and in‑house calibration work, guaranteeing accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
• Drive improvements in turnaround times, capacity, and operational effectiveness.

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong technical understanding of electrical calibration, along with dimensional testing and inspection processes.
• Experience working within a UKAS‑accredited or ISO‑regulated environment is highly beneficial.
• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience is advantageous, however, experienced Electrical Calibration Technicians looking to step up are actively encouraged to apply.
• Highly organised, quality‑focused, and confident managing both people and technical processes.
