Job Description

Fleet Continuous Improvement Practitioner | West Midlands | up to £57,000 | Permanent

The Opportunity

A leading train operating company is seeking to hire an experienced continuous improvement (CI) professional to drive efficiency within their fleet operations and strive to achieve productivity levels comparable to other rail operators.

It involves both day-to-day improvements and larger projects, providing a dynamic and challenging work environment.

Responsibilities:

Some of the key priorities for this role include:

  • Identify and eliminate waste in processes within the depots. This includes small scale projects such as day to day maintenance and upkeep of the trains and larger scale projects such as facilities and equipment upgrades.
  • Introduce gradual step changes in process which will collectively improve overall productivity levels across the business.
  • Apply basic and intermediate continuous improvement tools and techniques (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma), whilst keeping colleagues engaged and bought into the change process.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will come from an industry where continuous improvement is deeply embedded in the culture and operational strategy, such as rail, automotive, manufacturing, or other sectors known for structured process optimisation and performance excellence.

You work closely with depot managers, process owners and the wider Business Excellence team to understand the current data, explore the opportunities, and ultimately plan for and implement ongoing change.

You will bring qualifications in both engineering and continuous improvement as well as strong analytical skills, project management skills, and an ability to build strong relationships and be the driver for change. The client is keen to hear examples of your proven success and examples of where you have been able to improve productivity levels in your previous roles.

Location:

Multiple depots across the West Midlands and occasional travel to London

Salary and benefits:

Up to £57,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

Free travel across this operating company’s network and 75% discount on all other operators for you, your partner and your dependent children.
