Ethos Education is recruiting a Head of Science for a secondary school in East London. This is a permanent leadership role starting in September 2026, although an earlier start would be welcomed for the right candidate.
This is a school with a strong sense of community and a Science department that already has good foundations in place. Student numbers are strong across all three sciences and there is a clear expectation that Science is a core part of the school’s academic offer.
The school is looking for someone who can bring consistency, clarity and direction to the department while supporting teachers at different stages of their careers.
• Leading Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
• Supporting Biology, Chemistry and Physics teaching across the department
• Opportunity to oversee or contribute to KS5 Science
• Driving curriculum development and department improvement
• Supporting staff development, coaching and consistency
• Monitoring progress, teaching and outcomes across the department
The department is collaborative and well established, with shared planning and resources already in place. There is a mixture of experienced teachers and newer staff, making this a good opportunity for someone who enjoys developing people as well as improving systems.
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Degree in a Science subject
• Strong classroom practice and subject knowledge
• Experience teaching Science at KS4
• Leadership experience or readiness for middle leadership
• Ability to create consistency across a department without overcomplicating systems
• Opportunity to lead a successful Science department
• Outer London pay scale plus TLR
• Supportive leadership team and collaborative staff culture
• East London location with strong transport links
• Role available from September or sooner
This role suits someone who wants to lead a department in a calm, organised and practical way, focusing on good teaching, strong routines and steady improvement over time.
