Job Description

Religious Studies Teacher

Religious Studies Teacher
Kingston upon Thames area
Permanent, full time
Outer London MPS/UPS

We are looking to appoint a committed Religious Studies Teacher to join a well-run secondary school in the Kingston upon Thames area. This is a permanent, full-time role for a teacher who can bring subject knowledge, calm classroom practice and a clear enthusiasm for Religious Studies across KS3, KS4 and KS5.

The school is a mixed 11 to 18 setting with a strong sixth form and a good reputation locally. It has a settled culture, clear routines and a sensible approach to behaviour and workload. Staff are supported by straightforward systems and there is a strong sense of collaboration across the humanities area.

This role would suit an experienced RS teacher or an ECT with secure subject knowledge and the confidence to teach GCSE Religious Studies and, where required, A Level Philosophy and Ethics / RS.

The role

You will be teaching Religious Studies across KS3, KS4 and KS5, with responsibility for:

  • planning and delivering engaging, well-structured RS lessons
  • teaching GCSE Religious Studies
  • contributing to A Level provision where appropriate
  • developing pupils’ understanding of beliefs, ethics, philosophy and evaluation
  • using clear routines, assessment and feedback to support progress
  • working collaboratively with colleagues in the humanities faculty
  • maintaining high expectations for behaviour, effort and academic writing

We are looking for someone who

  • holds QTS
  • has experience teaching Religious Studies or a closely related humanities subject
  • can teach confidently across KS3 and KS4, with KS5 desirable
  • has strong subject knowledge and good classroom presence
  • is organised, reflective and able to work well with colleagues
  • can support pupils of different starting points and levels of confidence
  • understands how to secure strong outcomes at GCSE and A Level

The school offers

  • a permanent post in a supportive and well-organised school
  • a strong sixth form and established post-16 provision
  • clear systems and routines
  • a collaborative humanities faculty
  • sensible workload expectations
  • supportive leadership
  • a positive environment where staff are trusted to teach

There may also be scope to contribute to wider humanities work depending on experience and timetable need.

This is a strong opportunity for a Religious Studies Teacher looking to join a school where the department is valued, behaviour is orderly and the day-to-day working environment is steady and professional.
