Design Technology Teacher

Design Technology Teacher
Derby
11 to 18 secondary school
Permanent, full time
MPS/UPS

We are seeking a committed Design Technology Teacher to join a well-established 11 to 18 secondary school in Derby. This is a permanent, full-time role for a teacher who enjoys practical teaching, clear routines and working with pupils who are ready to learn.

The school has a settled culture, clear systems and a practical approach to teaching and behaviour. The DT department is part of a broad and balanced curriculum, with pupils benefiting from a focus on subject knowledge, hands-on learning and well-structured lessons. There is scope to teach across KS3, KS4 and KS5, depending on experience and the needs of the timetable.

This role would suit an experienced Design Technology Teacher or a confident ECT with strong subject knowledge and a good grasp of practical workshop teaching.

The role

You will be teaching Design Technology across the secondary school, with responsibilities including:

  • planning and delivering engaging DT lessons
  • teaching practical and theory content
  • supporting pupils through KS3, KS4 and GCSE
  • contributing to KS5 if appropriate to your experience
  • maintaining high standards of health and safety in practical lessons
  • using clear assessment and feedback to support progress
  • working collaboratively with colleagues in the department

Depending on your specialism, there may be opportunity to teach areas such as product design, resistant materials, engineering-related content or other practical DT strands.

We are looking for someone who

  • holds QTS
  • has experience teaching Design Technology, Product Design or a closely related subject
  • can teach confidently across KS3 and KS4
  • is comfortable managing practical lessons and workshop environments
  • has a calm, well-organised classroom style
  • works well as part of a team
  • can bring both subject knowledge and a sensible approach to day-to-day teaching

The school offers

  • a supportive and well-run school environment
  • clear behaviour systems
  • sensible workload expectations
  • collaborative planning within the department
  • a leadership team that is visible and supportive
  • a culture that values consistency and practical solutions
  • ECT support where appropriate

This is a strong opportunity for a Design Technology Teacher who wants to work in a school where the basics are done properly and the department is trusted to get on with the job.
