Job Description

Head of Business Studies

Head of Business Studies
Coventry area
Permanent, full time
MPS/UPS plus TLR, depending on experience

We are looking to appoint an experienced and capable Head of Business Studies to lead the subject in a large Coventry area secondary school and sixth form. This is a permanent, full-time leadership role for a teacher who can combine strong classroom practice with clear subject leadership across KS4 and KS5, including GCSE and A Level Business Studies.

The school is a large 11 to 18 setting with a broad intake and an established sixth form offer. It is a school where consistency matters, lessons follow clear structures and staff work within well-defined systems. Business Studies is a valued part of the curriculum and the department has the opportunity to continue developing outcomes, uptake and quality of provision.

This role would suit an experienced Business Studies teacher ready to step into middle leadership, or an existing Head of Department looking for a new setting where expectations are sensible and support is in place.

The role

As Head of Business Studies, you will:

  • lead the Business Studies curriculum across KS4 and KS5
  • teach GCSE Business Studies and A Level Business Studies
  • support curriculum planning, sequencing and assessment
  • monitor standards and help drive improvement in outcomes
  • support colleagues through guidance, shared practice and clear organisation
  • contribute to sixth form provision and post-16 progression
  • maintain high expectations while keeping workload realistic

There may also be scope to work with related vocational or enterprise pathways depending on the timetable and your experience.

We are looking for someone who

  • holds QTS
  • has strong subject knowledge in Business Studies
  • has experience teaching across KS4 and KS5
  • can lead a department with confidence and clarity
  • understands how to secure strong GCSE and A Level outcomes
  • works well with staff and pupils
  • values consistency, collaboration and calm routines
  • is organised, reflective and focused on practical improvement

The school offers

  • a permanent leadership post in a large secondary and sixth form setting
  • a clear curriculum structure
  • established behaviour systems
  • a supportive leadership team
  • a school culture that values stability, clarity and professionalism
  • opportunities to shape the direction of the subject
  • a working environment where systems are in place and staff are not expected to reinvent the wheel

This is a strong opportunity for a Business Studies specialist who wants to lead a subject well in a school where things are properly organised.
