Job Description

History Teacher – Surrey – September 2025

Full time. Permanent. Suitable for experienced teachers and ECTs

An ambitious and supportive secondary school in Surrey is looking to appoint a History Teacher to join its successful humanities team from September 2025. This is a full time, permanent position ideal for someone with a deep passion for historical enquiry, strong subject knowledge and a genuine commitment to inclusive and ambitious education.

The school offers a calm, purposeful working environment with a clear behaviour system and a collaborative culture. Teachers are supported to focus on high-quality planning, subject expertise and building relationships with students. Whether you are an ECT seeking strong mentoring or an experienced History Teacher looking for a fresh start, you will find this a rewarding and professionally satisfying place to teach.

The department
The History department is known for its well-structured curriculum, intelligent use of assessment and thoughtful approach to workload. Schemes of work follow a chronological model across KS3 with a focus on historical thinking, causation and interpretation. At GCSE, the school follows a broad and engaging specification that prepares students for further academic study. There is strong student uptake and results continue to improve year on year.

You will be joining a team of passionate historians who share resources, discuss pedagogy and contribute to whole-school literacy and cultural enrichment initiatives.

Why consider this school?
The school is located in a green and well-connected part of Surrey, offering the benefits of a semi-rural setting with easy rail and road access to London and the South East. Staff benefit from high-quality CPD, visible and supportive leadership and a professional culture grounded in kindness, trust and ambition.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Holds QTS and is qualified to teach History at KS3 and GCSE

  • Enjoys planning collaboratively and contributing to departmental improvement

  • Believes in a knowledge-rich curriculum with room for creativity and student-led discussion

  • Can inspire students to think critically about the past and its relevance to the present

  • Wants to work in a school that values staff wellbeing and professional growth
