Like many, it fell on hard times in the 90s/00s but has seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years as Londoners moved outwards for cheaper accommodation and the sea air! As such, Southend has quite a thriving nightlife, arts scene and it’s always had the longest pier in the country! It’s a nice place to be, and is worth checking out for an enthusiastic Science teacher.
