Elevations Design & Projects team are recruiting a Senior Design Draughtsperson, a key member of a market leading engineering function, responsible for leading the creation, modification and delivery of bespoke mechanical component and assembly designs for specialist applications.
The role supports both customer-specific design requirements and internal engineering projects, ensuring technically robust solutions are produced in line with specifications, quality standards and time-critical demands.
This position combines advanced CAD draughting expertise, practical engineering understanding, and team leadership to deliver accurate design outputs and support cross-functional departments such as Sales, Applications Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.
Support and work closely with design/draughting personnel, promoting high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Interpret customer specifications, drawings and application data to define key deliverables and support the selection of suitable mechanical solutions.
Develop an in-depth understanding of the organisation’s product range and associated applications.
Produce detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, tolerances and assemblies for bespoke or modified designs.
Modify and adapt standard product designs to suit non-standard equipment and applications.
Create drawings and layouts for special test fixtures or ancillary equipment where required.
Generate bills of materials and supporting documentation to assist purchasing, planning and manufacturing.
Support conceptual design activities for complex or development-led engineering projects.
Provide general engineering support and assist with departmental organisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure all design outputs meet specification, quality and compliance requirements.
Allocate workloads, coordinate resources and support efficient team performance.
Promote best practices, continuous improvement and multi-skilling within the team.
Support and deliver training and development for draughting personnel.
Maintain, update and ensure adherence to drawing office procedures and standards.
Communicate daily with internal and external stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design queries.
Liaise with workshops, inspection and manufacturing teams regarding buildability, tolerances and concessions.
Participate in performance reviews and support people management processes as required.
Reasonable duties within capability may also be required.
Qualifications
HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Skills & Knowledge
Advanced 3D CAD proficiency.
Strong draughting skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to interpret complex specifications and engineering data.
Competent IT user.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Effective problem-solving capability.
Confident dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience (including desirables)
Previous experience in mechanical design/draughting within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Desirable: Knowledge of rotating equipment, mechanical components or related engineered products.
Experience with commercial CAD/PLM systems (e.g., Solid Edge, Teamcenter or equivalents).
Experience with ERP/business systems.
Interest in continued professional development or engineering registration.
