Job Description

Elevation Recruitment are partnering with a leading engineering business in Lincolnshire to recruit a CAD Designer to join their growing Engineering Controls team.
This is a superb entry-level opportunity, ideal for someone with a foundation in design or engineering who’s looking to build a long-term career in CAD and technical documentation. You’ll support a range of retrofit, upgrade, and controls projects, producing accurate engineering drawings, models, and documentation, while developing hands-on experience within a collaborative design team.

Design Engineer Duties & Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with engineers and senior designers to produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings, layouts, and bills of materials.

  • Support ongoing engineering projects with accurate and timely design documentation.

  • Attend design reviews and team meetings, contributing ideas and learning from experienced colleagues.

  • Liaise across departments to confirm technical requirements and align with project goals.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all design work adheres to relevant safety, quality, and environmental standards.

  • Maintain clear documentation, version control, and compliance with company drawing standards.

  • Assist in identifying potential risks and contribute to safe, efficient engineering practices.

Ownership & Accountability

  • Take pride in the accuracy, presentation, and reliability of all drawings and documentation.

  • Help update and convert legacy drawings into current CAD formats.

  • Follow internal procedures for drawing creation, approval, and record keeping.

  • Manage personal workload effectively and keep stakeholders informed of progress.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support engineers with the preparation of assembly, manufacturing, and installation documentation.

  • Double-check and verify work before submission to maintain a “right first time” standard.

  • Take part in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline design and documentation processes.

Delivery & Development

  • Deliver design outputs on time and to defined quality standards.

  • Provide CAD support for ongoing engineering modifications and control system upgrades.

  • Participate in structured training to strengthen CAD capability and broaden understanding of control systems.

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, adaptability, and commitment to team goals.

Design Engineer Skills & Experience

Education / Training

  • HNC, ONC/OND, or currently studying towards a qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Design Engineering.

  • Familiar with AutoCAD (essential); experience with SolidWorks or Inventor is an advantage.

  • Understanding of engineering drawing standards, documentation, and revision control.

  • A genuine interest in design engineering and control system applications.
