Job Description

Elevations Design & Projects team are working with a market leading manufacturing business looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic design team, focused on delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions. This role covers the full design lifecycle—from initial concept and development through to manufacturing and commissioning—requiring a hands-on approach and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD tools (Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent).

  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and supporting documentation to industry standards.

  • Work closely with electrical, software, and production teams to ensure cohesive and practical design solutions.

  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities.

  • Provide technical support during machine build, commissioning, and testing phases.

  • Review and improve existing designs based on operational feedback and cost efficiency.

  • Communicate with suppliers regarding manufactured parts and material specifications.

  • Ensure design data is managed and maintained using a document control system (e.g. Vault).

Design Engineer, desirable Skills & Experience

  • Degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum 2-3  years of experience in mechanical design

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (preferably Autodesk Inventor or similar).

  • Solid understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and common manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, and sheet metal work.

  • Ability to interpret and produce technical drawings to BS/ISO standards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with pneumatics and/or motion control is advantageous.

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Vault or similar data management systems.

  • Awareness of CE marking, machinery safety directives, and relevant safety standards.

  • Practical experience in prototype assembly and testing environments.
