Accounts Assistant 
Rotherham, South Yorkshire 
Up to £33,000

Elevation Accountancy & Finance Recruitment are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to support the day-to-day financial operations of a busy finance team. This role is focused on processing financial transactions accurately and ensuring smooth and efficient handling of both accounts payable and receivable functions.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Process incoming supplier invoices, matching them with purchase orders and delivery documentation
  • Maintain payment schedules and ensure suppliers are paid on time
  • Handle payment processing and resolve invoice discrepancies or queries

Accounts Receivable

  • Raise customer invoices and keep accurate sales ledger records
  • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts
  • Reconcile incoming payments and assist with debtor reporting

Banking & Reconciliations

  • Perform routine reconciliations of company bank accounts
  • Investigate and resolve any mismatches or errors in the financial records

Compliance Support

  • Assist with VAT return preparation and ensure transaction-level compliance
  • Help compile supporting documentation for internal or external audits

Month-End Processes

  • Support month-end reporting activities, including journal entries such as accruals and prepayments
  • Provide relevant financial data to assist in generating internal reports

General Support

  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and financial admin tasks as directed by the Finance Manager
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure department objectives are met efficiently

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in a finance-related role involving transactional processing
  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel 
  • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience using accounting software (e.g. SAP or similar systems)
  • Knowledge of VAT principles and compliance (desirable) 
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment (desirable)
