Location/s: Hybrid with up to 25% Travel to Client site locations

Role Description

Play a key role delivering tech sector mega-projects.

Reporting to the DCE Program Director, the Electrical Engineer will drive reviews, coordinate and provide key technical input during site due diligence, detailed design and/or construction administration phases of the data centre project.

This position will collaborate and manage internal and external resources for the design review, coordination ensuring compliant delivery of discipline-specific systems aligning with Client and site-specific requirements.

Role Accountabilities

As the Electrical Engineer, the candidate provides key input to the Client, organizations and stakeholders and is responsible for leading and/or contributing to workgroups with representatives from AE firms, other disciplines and other key stakeholders within the Client. This position requires a detailed understanding of data centre electrical design, controls and operational experience.

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Lead and direct consultants in the design review and coordination of the electrical systems with other disciplines, associated power and overall electrical topology for our datacenter builds.
  • Responsible for leading and/or contributing to electrical workgroups with representatives from consulting firms along with key stakeholders within the Client.
  • Review all power system designs during the design stages, equipment procurement, bidding, manufacturing, delivery, and installation on site to ensure compliance.
  • Support resolution of issues raised by the construction teams and various stakeholders.
  • Interface closely with procurement team, the manufacturers, and the global and local engineering teams to deliver the electrical solutions needed for each project.
  • Responsible for review of specification and design review, detailing the sequence of operation for the electrical systems and overall drawings and specifications for our electrical topology.
  • Technical review and analysis of the lease and colocation datacenter space from external providers for compliance with Microsoft requirements.
  • Lead technical reviews with utility provider to complete reliability study and support Energy team with feasibility studies to ensure compliance.
  • Support the Energy team is energy application by providing requirement in power demand, power resiliency and physical diversity.
  • Support the Site Selection team by validating electrical infrastructure arrangement, substation footprint and identify power availability risk during site due diligence and test fit.
  • Assist partner teams to review the electrical infrastructure upgrading scope to raise site utilization.
  • Assist in commissioning validating performance, quality, and reliability.
  • Working to continually improve services and drive innovation

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership is preferable but not essential
  • 5-7 years experience in data centres or related industry.
  • Technical understanding of mission critical environments.
  • The ideal candidate will be an electrical Professional Engineer with expertise in datacenter electrical power engineering.
  • A team player able to work in a multi-disciplined engineering team designing the Client Datacenters globally and possesses the skills to work in a fast-paced multi project environment.
  • Ideal candidate is knowledgeable in power generation and transmission topologies. Having a firm understanding of the electrical distribution system design and monitoring requirements for mission critical applications, along sequence of operation requirements and monitoring of all datacenter electrical control systems.
  • Ability to advise a team of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data centre environments.
