Position Summary
The Safety Director will be responsible for developing the Safety Program for semiconductor clients for Arcadis DPS. This is a key position and requires the successful candidate to understand the EHS requirements for giga-projects within the German Construction industry.

The Safety Director is directly responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with construction projects and company operations. The Safety Director will proactively plan, direct and implement the Company’s-Clients safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment. The Safety Director supports the Field Safety Manager in ensuring each construction project is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, subcontractors, and the general public.

The Safety Director ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and local safety related regulations. The Safety Director sets the tone for corporate safety and risk management, demonstrates strong leadership skills, works well in a team environment, has excellent communication skills, and strives to enrich the Company Culture.

The Safety Director will work directly with the Client EHS lead to develop a fully integrated safety program encompassing, client, trade, GC’s, and all site resources, ensuring that all practices are in alignment with German EHS Construction requirements.

The Safety Director will assist the client in the development of the overall Safety program, be responsible for developing the project safety resource program, identifying and mobilisation the required safety professionals and managing Arcadis DPS safety resources.

Key Responsibilities
The Safety Program Manager responsibilities shall cover all areas of Health and Safety Management activities required for a large construction environment including:

  • Accountable for the development of the EHS implementation plan for clients.
  • Ensure compliance to all Germany EHS construction requirements.
  • Support the Field Safety Manager regarding all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs.
  • Review new Subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure they have an acceptable safety record.
  • Provide recommendations and assistance, along with the Field Safety Manager, to Project Managers and Superintendents, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material or substance utilization.
  • Perform and oversee investigation of accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies.
  • Plan and implement risk management, safety policies and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, county and local rules and regulations, including MSDS requirements, for both field and office operations, to maximize a safe working environment.
  • Act as corporate contact for any federal, state, or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including, but not limited to OSHA and/or DOSH.
  • Manage hazardous materials control program. Work with 3rd party services to review samples and test for hazardous materials prior to the start of demolition on all projects. Secure good faith reports prior to the start of work.
  • Implement all activities relating to Method statements, SPA’S, Permitting systems and PPE Monitoring within a highly regulated environment.
  • Implement a strict EHS Monitoring and measure plan and ensure compliance to said plan.
  • Drive the site safety team to implement improvements in all safety activities.
  • Identification, onboarding, and management of the Arcadis-DPS safety team.
  • Promote and participate proactively in Safety lessons learned and improvement activities on the project.
  • Prepare and transmit weekly safety reports and indicators.
  • Prepare Budgets, Resource plans, Training plans and Schedules for improvement of Site Safety performance.

Education and Experience

  • Professional Safety Certification for German Construction industry,
  • Master's degree in safety Field is a plus.
  • Semiconductor EHS Safety Director construction experience.
  • Have a minimum of 15 years of related experience in Large Construction Projects.
  • Proven experience in Safety program development.
  • Experience in the management, overseeing the development of safety teams to meet clients’ requirements.
  • An overall understanding of the design, engineering procurement, and construction management phases associated with delivering large projects.
  • Candidate must have proficiency in a window-based environment and software (Word, PowerPoint, Project, advanced Excel).
  • They will have experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple customers and stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of German Construction Industry required.
  • Previous experience in managing large construction Programs.
  • Previous program management experience of Cap projects more than $400M
  • Experienced in leading teams.
  • Experience in implementing Continuous improvement project.
