Position Summary

Arcadis has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Piping Designer to join our Advanced Technology design team. This role is suited to a senior professional responsible for delivering piping design across multiple complex semiconductor projects, while also leading and coordinating a high-performing remote piping design team.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical capability with proven leadership experience, ensuring design delivery is aligned with programme, quality and client expectations. You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, capable of operating effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic project environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Design Leadership

  • Lead piping design delivery across multiple projects, ensuring safe, compliant and constructible designs from concept through detailed design.
  • Work in fast paced brownfield setting, walking down routes and lead the design of constructable, clash adjudicated
  • Develop 3D piping models using Plant 3D and Revit, and extract drawings, isometrics and bills of quantities.
  • Produce conceptual layouts and feasibility studies, evaluating equipment arrangement and pipe routing options to determine optimum solutions.
  • Generate detailed models, drawings and isometrics from P&IDs, specifications, equipment layouts, sketches and scopes of work.
  • Develop P3D specifications and configure P3D project environments.
  • Complete design risk assessments and ensure design solutions are fully coordinated and constructible.

Remote Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and manage a distributed piping design team, setting clear deliverables, priorities and performance expectations.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring and support to designers at all levels, driving consistency and quality across outputs.
  • Monitor team performance against schedule, proactively identifying delivery risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Establish effective remote working structures (regular reviews, coordination sessions, progress tracking) to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Foster strong collaboration across locations and disciplines, maintaining a high-performance, integrated team approach.

Quality, Compliance & Client Interface

  • Present work-in-progress and final design solutions to clients in ongoing workgroup meetings.
  • Perform continuous quality checks and complete full technical reviews prior to issue.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with client specifications and project requirements.
  • Manage scope changes, assessing impacts and communicating updates to the wider project team.

Multi-Discipline Coordination & Vendor Engagement

  • Lead piping and equipment coordination with other disciplines and actively participate in, or chair, coordination meetings and workshops.
  • Manage internal discipline modelling and space coordination activities.
  • Liaise with equipment vendors to obtain required design information and review technical submittals.
  • Conduct site surveys and field verification to ensure alignment with design intent.
  • Develop master tie-in and shutdown plans.

Planning & Estimation

  • Define piping deliverables and support project planning through man-hour and schedule estimates.
  • Prepare material take-offs to support cost estimates and procurement activities.

Education & Experience

  • Third-level engineering qualification or equivalent trade background.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in piping design, ideally within semiconductor, pharma or complex industrial sectors.

Essential Skills

  • Strong expertise in complex piping systems and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Proficiency in Plant 3D, Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Navisworks and ACC/BIM 360 on large-scale projects.
  • Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and drive solutions to completion.
  • Demonstrated leadership and remote team management capability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to track performance, identify issues and drive corrective actions.

  • Working hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
