Job Description

Business Development Manager – Construction Experience

Location: Glasgow (Scotland-based with UK travel)
Client: Civil Engineering Contractor – Pre-Construction Team

We're working with a growing civil engineering contractor in Glasgow that is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to join its Pre-Construction team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Business Development professional already working within the construction industry, who is looking to take on a broader role with a specialist civil engineering and infrastructure contractor.

We are open to candidates from across the construction sector, including those currently working in civil engineering, build, or related construction environments. What matters most is your ability to build strong client relationships, identify and develop opportunities, and help convert those opportunities into secured work.

You will be involved throughout the early stages of the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, internal teams and stakeholders to understand requirements, identify opportunities and position the business for future growth. The role will involve regular travel across Scotland and the wider UK for client meetings, networking events and industry engagements.

About You

  • Proven experience working in a Business Development role within the construction industry
  • Experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, building or a closely related construction sector
  • A strong understanding of how construction projects are developed, procured, bid and secured
  • Experience identifying new business opportunities and developing them through to successful outcomes
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with confidence engaging with clients and senior stakeholders
  • A commercially minded approach and an understanding of the construction project lifecycle
  • The ability to work collaboratively with pre-construction, commercial, design and operational teams
  • An interest in developing long-term client relationships rather than simply generating leads
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams and CRM systems
  • A full UK driving licence

We're particularly interested in individuals who are already established within construction-sector business development and are looking to broaden their experience by moving into a civil engineering and infrastructure environment.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Company car
  • Bonus scheme and pension
  • Clear progression opportunities within a growing business
  • Exposure to major civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland and the wider UK
  • The chance to work closely with clients from the earliest stages of project development
  • A varied, strategic and highly client-facing position within an established construction business

This is a genuine opportunity for an experienced construction Business Development professional to move into a role where they can have a direct influence on client relationships, project acquisition and the future growth of a specialist civil engineering contractor.

If you have a strong track record in business development within construction and are interested in applying that experience within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector, we'd be keen to hear from you.
