Job Title: SPEN APSS Operative (Standby/Supervision)Location: Nielston and Crookston Substations, ScotlandJob Purpose: To provide competent APSS (Authorised Person Substation Safety) standby and supervision during downlead installation works at SPEN substations, ensuring the safety of all personnel and compliance with SPEN safety rules and procedures.Key Responsibilities:• Safety Supervision: Act as the primary safety supervisor for all downlead installation activities, ensuring adherence to SPEN safety rules, procedures, and permit requirements.• APSS Duties: Perform APSS duties as required, including but not limited to:o Receiving and understanding Safety Documents (e.g., Sanctions for Test, Limitations of Access).o Implementing and maintaining safety precautions on site.o Issuing safety advice and warnings to the work party.o Ensuring correct earthing procedures are followed.• Downlead Installation Oversight: Supervise the installation of downleads, ensuring work is performed to SPEN standards and specifications.• Risk Assessment: Review and understand risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for the downlead installation work. Ensure the work party understands and adheres to the RAMS.• Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the work party, SPEN control, and other relevant stakeholders.• Permit Compliance: Ensure all necessary permits are in place and adhered to throughout the duration of the works.• Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to any emergency situations that may arise on site, following SPEN emergency procedures.• Site Monitoring: Continuously monitor the work site for potential hazards and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all safety-related activities, including permits, safety briefings, and any incidents or near misses.• Briefings: Conduct thorough safety briefings with the work party before commencement of any work.• Equipment Inspection: Ensure all tools and equipment used for the downlead installation are in good working order and have been inspected as required.Required Skills and Qualifications:• Mandatory: Current SPEN APSS authorization.• Essential: Demonstrable experience in substation safety procedures and downlead installation practices.• Essential: Thorough understanding of SPEN safety rules and procedures.• Essential: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.• Essential: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.• Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• Desirable: First Aid certification.• Desirable: Experience with specific downlead installation techniques and equipment used by SPEN.
