Maintenance Fitter – Manufacturing Industry


Location: Scarborough
Salary: £36,777.00 per annum
Job Type: Full-time
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 4:00pm; Friday, 7:30am – 2:00pm


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing business in Scarborough. This role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of production machinery, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on production machinery to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of all safety guarding and compliance with company safety standards.
  • Work closely with Production Supervisors to coordinate maintenance activities efficiently.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
  • Support the installation of new machinery and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with sub-contractors to ensure maintenance work aligns with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform bench fitting, fabrication work, and other mechanical tasks as required.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental procedures and report any issues promptly.


Key Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of fabrication and MIG welding.
  • Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Basic understanding of lathes, vertical millers, and surface grinders.
  • Press tool maintenance experience would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work proactively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Well-organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and respond to emergencies.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a production setting.
  • NVQ (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication and Welding Engineering Technology, ideally gained through an apprenticeship.
