Hire Desk Controller
Location: Swindon
Salary: From £30,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm (1-hour unpaid lunch break)
Hire Desk Controller – Permanent Opportunity
Due to continued growth and expansion, our client is seeking a motivated, organised and customer-focused Hire Desk Controller to join their busy and growing operation.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and expanding business operating within the plant and equipment sector, supporting customers across a variety of industries. Working within a close-knit and supportive team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth coordination of equipment hire activities while delivering outstanding customer service.
This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is confident managing multiple priorities while maintaining high levels of organisation and communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full hire process from initial enquiry through to off-hire and equipment return
- Coordinate machinery availability, deliveries, collections and transport schedules
- Liaise effectively with customers, drivers, workshop teams and internal departments
- Process hire agreements and maintain accurate records using hire management systems
- Ensure equipment is serviced, compliant and prepared for hire requirements
- Deliver exceptional customer service and build strong customer relationships
- Communicate effectively across departments to maintain smooth operational performance
- Resolve issues quickly and efficiently within a busy operational environment
- Support the wider team with general administration and operational activities as required
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience within plant hire, tool hire, construction hire, equipment rental or similar industries preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a hire desk or hire coordination role
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced environment and managing changing priorities
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and hire management systems
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a close-knit team
- Knowledge of excavators, plant equipment, construction machinery or site operations would be advantageous
