Role: Senior Database Administrator - DV
Location: Aldermaston (5 days/week onsite)
IR35: Inside
Rate: £67.49/hr (Umbrella) MAX
Duration: 12 Months (Potential extension)
Security Clearance: DV
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide primary support for Oracle and MS SQL database environments including daily operations, backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, and production support.
- Development, documentation, implementation and maintenance of operational policies / best practice for the database estate.
- Continual process improvement with a focus on automation of repeatable tasks.
- Identification of self-service opportunities and ownership of implementation.
- Ensuring changes to databases and services align with operational standards, service level agreements and business requirements.
- Design and implementation of new database environments.
- Strategic planning, capacity planning, and implementing best practices for database management.
- Introduce and deploy new database technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full life cycle support of Oracle (19c) and MS SQL (2016, 2019 & 2022) environments.
- Provide advice and recommendations on database architecture, design, and implementation.
- Develop, support, and communicate database policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Design and implement database solutions that meet customer requirements for reliability, availability, scalability, security, and performance.
- Install, upgrade and test database software, in addition to troubleshooting database issues.
- Responsible for development of database backup and recovery procedures, ensuring data integrity and identifying potential data errors.
- Plan and perform disaster recovery testing with database restoration in alternate locations.
- Assist application development teams with planning and implementations, including review and approval of database schema changes, procedures and query optimizations.
- Maintain the performance of the database estate.
- Respond to incidents / changes within published SLA's to maintain/resume service
- Work with 3rd party suppliers as necessary to meet operational demands.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure integration of databases with other systems and applications is compliant with operational standards and best practice.
