Job Description
OBM are recruiting for a Group Assistant Accountant to join our Aberdeen based clients team on a 12 month fixed term contract.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Group Finance Manager, the Group Assistant Accountant will be responsible for:
- Maintaining POs for UK and corporate overhead departments
- Generating necessary paperwork to support manual payments for UK and corporate overhead departments
- Providing accurate, timely, relevant information and analysis in relation to corporate overhead departments
- Monitoring system WIP/system stock control accounts and ensuring they are cleared down prior to month ends
- Processing UK payroll journals and reconciling payroll control accounts
- Producing intercompany reports and ensuring the regular reconciliation and settlement of balances Maintaining Group CAR processes/reporting and UK fixed asset registers
- Providing support to the Group Finance team with the preparation and review of various regular reports - cash flow forecasts, VAT returns
Roles & Responsibilities
- Responsible for timely, accurate and reliable financial reporting and management information within certain of the corporate overhead departments, and also for certain of the holding companies within the Group.
- Responsible for ensuring budgets and forecasts are properly prepared, understood and submitted in accordance with deadlines for those corporate overhead departments and where appropriate for the holding companies.
- Driving internal control initiatives through the business areas and ensuring that financial processes and systems comply with relevant policies and requirements.
- Supporting in the preparation of year end and statutory return information.
- Producing monthly intercompany reports highlighting unreconciled balances, and pursuing relevant business accountants to ensure balances are reconciled monthly and settled at least quarterly (as funds allow).
- Monitoring all submissions to Group Finance from operations and ensuring these are received on time and following up on missing information.
- Assuming overall responsibility for the Group/UK fixed asset registers, obtaining necessary approvals for CARs and monitoring spend against those CARs.
- Assisting with the compilation weekly of the 13 week cash forecast for the group.
- Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly VAT return.
- Completing allocated government statistical returns and submitting as required.
- Assisting as required with the ad hoc Group Reporting Duties.
Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)
- Financially literate with experience of balance sheet reconciliations
- Computer literate with well developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite, particularly excel.
- Solutions based with strong planning, organisation and numerical skills, and excellent attention to detail.
- Accustomed to working effectively in a fast paced environment, flexible and can adapt to changing workloads and priorities, where high standards are not compromised under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and in writing. Ability to work standalone whilst remaining a positive contributor to the wider team.
