Working on behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an experienced SCADA & Communications Engineer to join a business operating within the EPC, power systems, and renewable energy sectors. The successful candidate will support the design, integration, and delivery of supervisory control, automation, and communication systems across HV substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout the UK.
Designing and developing SCADA and communication architectures for HV substations and BESS installations (11400kV).
Specifying, configuring, and integrating RTUs, PLCs, HMI systems, and network equipment, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
Developing SCADA I/O schedules, communication diagrams, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
Defining and implementing communication protocols, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, and Modbus TCP/RTU.
Ensuring robust and compliant data, control, and telemetry links between site assets, DNO/TO control centres, and client systems.
Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), testing, and commissioning of SCADA and communications systems.
Liaising with DNOs, TOs, and NGESO regarding telemetry, RTU configuration, and interface acceptance.
Ensuring all designs comply with National Grid, DNO, and ENA standards, as well as cybersecurity and IT/OT network security requirements.
Working closely with Protection & Controls, Electrical Design, and Commissioning teams throughout project delivery.
Maintaining and managing technical documentation and workflows using Procore or an equivalent project management platform.

Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Control, or Communications Engineering.
Experience designing or delivering SCADA and communications systems within HV substations, grid connections, or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and control architectures.
Hands-on experience with RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, and network devices from major OEMs, including Siemens, Schneider, GE, SEL, or Emerson.
Familiarity with network configuration, including VLANs, routing, VPNs, and firewalls.
Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC 60870, and DNP3 standards.
Experience working within an EPC or design-and-build delivery environment.
Experience integrating BESS controllers, inverters, transformers, auxiliaries, and SCADA systems, including coordination of data exchanges between SCADA, PPC, EMS, and DNO/IDNO interfaces.
Understanding of grid code compliance, telemetry, and DNO/NGESO interface requirements would be advantageous.
Experience with cybersecurity standards, including ISO 27001 and NCSC CAF, for OT systems would be beneficial.
Proficiency with Procore, BIM 360, or similar digital collaboration platforms would be advantageous.
Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional registration with the IET or equivalent, would be beneficial.
