Job Description

Working on behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a business operating within the EPC and electrical infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership across the Electrical Design function, overseeing the delivery of electrical design services, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations, and supporting tendering, procurement, and project delivery activities.

Key Duties

  • Performing and/or managing the development of electrical EPC and ICP system designs from preliminary through to detailed design, including equipment layouts, specifications, single line diagrams (SLDs), and schedules.

  • Performing and/or managing the development of steady state, dynamic, and grid code compliance studies.

  • Selecting and overseeing the specification of electrical components, equipment, and materials.

  • Ensuring electrical engineering design packages meet functional, safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.

  • Ensuring engineering deliverables are completed in line with project programmes and quality standards.

  • Coordinating electrical and civil design interfaces to ensure project alignment.

  • Resolving complex technical design issues and acting as the primary electrical design authority.

  • Managing and supporting in-house electrical design engineers, third-party consultants, and contractors.

  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and feedback to team members.

  • Reviewing and approving electrical design outputs.

  • Supporting the training and development of the Electrical Design team.

  • Chairing project-specific electrical design meetings.

  • Providing technical input during tendering activities and supporting the development of preliminary electrical designs and tender pricing.

  • Defining equipment specifications in collaboration with the Procurement team and supporting subcontractor and supplier tender evaluations.

  • Supporting Delivery and Commercial teams with electrical design-related change events and variation order applications.

  • Developing and maintaining electrical design procedures and ensuring compliance with document control processes.

  • Promoting the effective use of Procore across the Electrical Design function.

  • Planning electrical design resources, identifying software and equipment requirements, and coordinating workloads across the team.

  • Building relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers while supporting the resolution of electrical design-related technical issues.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a related Electrical Design Engineering role.

  • Experience delivering electrical balance of plant (EBoP) design, with exposure to civil and mechanical systems.

  • Experience using electrical system modelling software such as DigSilent, PSCAD, or similar, including load flow, short circuit, reactive power, energisation, and cable sizing studies.

  • Experience using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software would be advantageous.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word.

  • Knowledge of UK Grid Code and compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of UK electrical design standards, regulations, and network operator requirements.

  • Understanding of CDM Principal Designer and Principal Contractor roles and responsibilities.

  • Strong project management and project delivery skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Full UK driving licence with the ability to travel to project sites across the UK when required.
