As CEO, your key objective will be to help define strategic direction and drive progress and results, with a focus on working collaboratively with their partners and members to ensure income is effectively focused and maximised, whilst guiding and developing a small, capable, team to maintain a high-performance culture.
A background of working in sport or the charity sector is not a pre-requisite, however a thorough understanding and empathy with the sector is.
The Chief Executive Officer role is home-based. Reporting to the Chair of The Board, you will be primarily responsible for strategic development, leadership, trustee support, partnership and business development, operations and delivery, promotion and profile raising of the charity, together with governance and compliance.
In the job you'll be tasked with the following:
Lead and inspire the organisation, staff and volunteers to carry out the strategic objectives of UK Deaf Sport, as agreed by the Board
Lead engagement with D/deaf and Sports communities within the UK and utilise the skills and knowledge of those in the D/deaf community and hard of hearing people, to ensure the organisation's strategies accurately reflect the current needs of all Deaf people in the UK
Lead and manage staff teams, and support staff to achieve their full potential
Develop and deliver operational plans against the UK Deaf Sport strategy
Develop and deliver a commercial strategy to source extra funding streams and secure opportunities for sponsorships
Oversee financial management & controls and recommend the annual budget and financial plans to the Board
Represent UK Deaf Sport at external meetings with key stakeholders and raise the profile of Deaf sports within the UK
Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Board and volunteers on UK Deaf Sport advisory groups
The ideal person for this Chief Executive Officer role will have relevant background in shaping and influencing organisational strategy, and leading staff and volunteers to carry out the strategic aims of the Board.
You'll also need a background in:
Working as a Chief Executive Officer, or at Director / Senior Manager level
Business, commercial acumen and financial management skills with the self-assurance to scrutinise financial management accounts and overall financial performance
Recruiting, mentoring, leading, and developing staff; building high-performance and loyal teams
In addition, you'll need the following:
Exceptional written and verbal/non-verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with a proven ability to establish positive and productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
An understanding of the importance of maintaining high standards of governance in charities
Emotional awareness of people's differences, diversity of thought and the strengths of a collegiate approach
